Article from the first issue of the News-Log. Woods Department 1961. This captures an interesting period of time in the pulpwood logging industry for the Grand Falls Mill. The chainsaw had almost completely replaced the bucksaw. Horses were still present, but tractors dominated. There were new machines being tried out, but the skidder had yet to fill the role that it would come to fill-a role that would completely change how logging was done. Trucks were becoming more and more prevalent as the Anglo-Newfoundland Development Company is trying to shake off the seasonal nature of the wood harvest.
