1960-2017
Passed loudly into history on May 4-5, 2017 at the age of 57 years Grand Falls Academy High School (aka Exploits Valley High-Maple), of Maple Street, Grand Falls. Predeceased by GFA Elementary (2012), The Brick Building (1997), GFA High Street, GFA Kindergarten and The Grand Falls Amalgamated School System in 1998. Leaving to morn Woodland Primary (nee. GFA Primary) Grand Falls-Windsor and thousands of former students and graduates in Newfoundland, Canada and around the world.
Ground was broken for GFA High School in May of 1959 in a ceremony attended by Lord Rothermere, work was completed and students moved in in January of 1960. Winner of 31 Jones Shield Hockey Championships and numerous other sport and academic accolades. Numerous musicals were put off from the building as both GFA and EVH. The building Served as high school until 2005, and briefly as intermediate school.
